In Florida, it is a crime to solicit door-to-door without a permit. Florida law (Statute 501.021) requires individuals who engage in door-to-door solicitation activities that sell or lease goods or services priced at more than $25, to obtain a permit.
The Leon County Code of Ordinances also supports this rule (Chapter 11, Article VI, Peddlers). It is recommended that if a door-to-door sales person comes to a residential home, the homeowner should ask to see their permit/ID. If they do not have one, then the resident should call the Sheriff's Dept. at 850-922-3300 to dispatch a deputy. This course of action will definitely cause the solicitor(s) to think twice about returning.
